Hello, Angels

Angels Among Us honorees were honored at a ceremony in Salem on Friday, April 21 at the Hickinbotham Building. The Angels were nominated by members of the community in March as those who have shown the community exemplary ways in helping their fellow community members. The honorees were Larry Brothers, Karen Coffman, Larry and Teri Sisson, Peggy Rogers, Joy Evans, Lauren Siebert, Anna Lee Little, Ivlean Hocum and Pam Fair. Honorees Kim Smith-Harber, Jake Smith and Robert “Bob” Miller were unable to make the event.

Another first happened to us here at CherryRoad Media, (or Areawide Media as the locals still call us to not be confused.) We held our first Angels Among Us event on Friday, April 21 at the Hickinbotham Building and I can say comfortably it was a great success. The Angels Among Us was a company-wide endeavor where we sought the best of those in our communities that go above and beyond for their fellow residents.

Bolstering Recycling

We all know recycling is a commonsense way to be responsible stewards of our environment – but recycling also strengthens our economy and creates hundreds of thousands of well-paying jobs nationwide. This is something I believe everyone can agree is truly a “win-win.” Since 1970, we’ve recognized April 22 as Earth Day. In the spirit of this occasion, we’re working to strengthen recycling and composting to better protect our planet.

The Debt Ceiling is a Big Deal

In February, the Congressional Budget Office projected that the U.S. will have to borrow an additional $10.5 trillion over the next 10 years just to pay interest on the national debt. For perspective, it took our nation from 1790 until 2008 to become $10 trillion in debt. Yes, you read that correctly; over the next 10 years, the US will have to borrow more money just to pay interest on the debt than all of the debt combined from 1790 to 2008.

Charles Vernon Nelson, 90, of Salem, Ark., died April 17 at his home. Arrangements are under the direction of Doty Funeral Home in Salem, Ark.
