ICC school board meeting for June

The Izard County Consolidated School Board met in regular session on June 14 in the high school board room. Superintendent Fred Walker announced to the board that he had been notified that the district had received a $600,000 Arkansas 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant from the Arkansas Department of Education.

State Capitol Week in Review

LITTLE ROCK - In 2021 the legislature approved Act 626, making Arkansas the first state in the nation to prohibit physicians from performing gender transition procedures on minors. Since then at least 19 other states have enacted similar laws to prohibit procedures such as hormone therapy and surgery for adolescents under 18 who wish to change their genders.

Tackling Ag Workforce Issues & Feeding the Globe

A robust agriculture industry starts with a strong and healthy workforce. However, due to a labor shortage, American farmers are increasingly turning to overseas workers to fill positions on the farm. This is not an easy process because our visa policies and regulations have become convoluted and burdensome, nor is it ideal because America is stronger when our domestic workforce is fully engaged. Reforms are desperately needed to address this pressing issue.

Arkansas House

In Arkansas, an estimated 58,000 Arkansans aged 65 and older were living with Alzheimer’s in 2020. This number is expected to climb to 67,000 by 2025.
