The Viola Longhorn tennis teams started their strong season with a 6–2 overall victory over the England Lions. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams walked away with only one loss each.

If defense wins championships, the Salem Greyhounds are off to a hot start to repeat as they traveled to Simmons Bank Field at Thone Stadium, the home of Arkansas Tech, to take on the Prescott Curly Wolves. The game ended in a one-sided affair as the Greyhounds scored early and often enroute to a 55-0 victory.
Art students from the Izard County School District won many awards at the Izard County Fair recently. Winners include: Devan Reed – first place in abstract painting, first place in landscape painting, and first place in mixed media abstract art; Mercedes Woodward - first place in expressionist art in pencil, first place with her animal drawing in pencil, and first place in abstract piece in ink; Mackenzie Robbins – first place in abstract landscape in mixed media and first place in expressionist art; Trinity Williams - first place with animal art in pencil, first place for landscape in painting, first place in expressionist still life, and first place in abstract art; Alex O’Connell - first place in painted landscape;
The Izard County School Livestock Team had a dominating performance at the Izard County Fair Livestock Show recently. The team amassed ten Overall Grand Champions, two Reserve Overall Grand Champions, 64 Grand Champions, 35 Reserve Grand Champions, 12 Showmanship Champions, two Herdsman Award Winners and the High Point Winner in each of the following categories: Cattle, Sheep, Dairy Goats, Dairy Cattle, Swine, and Meats/Market Goats.
Five Highland High School positions will be up for election.
