The July meeting of the Hardy History Associations is scheduled for Thursday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hardy Gym, 203 School Street in Hardy. The presenter will be John Peeples, born and raised in Memphis with deep roots in Hardy. John’s great-grandfather was one of Hardy’s founders, Walker Clayton. John’s presentation will include portions of “Founder’s Day Talk,” the speech written by his uncle, Fred Daugherty. Fred was very interested in Hardy’s history and collected information to write the speech for Hardy’s Centennial Celebration of July 19, 1985. The Hardy History Association continues to celebrate Hardy’s birthday in July. Fred’s research also led to his creation of Clayton, Cope, Estes, and Daugherty family trees which will be displayed at the meeting. John will also offer some of his perspectives about Hardy’s history and have some interesting contributions. Hardy Street Music will be strumming right along through the summer. This coming weekend, Saturday, July 9, brings a slight departure from the original schedule printed earlier this summer. For a special treat, Hardy Advertising and Promotions Commission will be hosting JD Marshall. The band will grace us with a blend of country music and classic rock between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Come step to the beat as you browse the shops of Main Street Hardy, or just rest for a minute or two in the shade of the umbrellas in Dr. Thompson’s Park, where the band will be playing at the gazebo. Bring a soda, bring a sandwich, bring a spouse and kids…or don’t. Just come to kick back and enjoy!

The 2022 Sharp County Fair began Tuesday, July 5, at the county fairgrounds in Ash Flat. There will be ongoing activities daily/ nightly through Saturday, July 9. Events and competitions are scheduled throughout the day, many at the Education Building, the main Pavilion or the Sullivan Show Arena. The carnival opened on evenings beginning Wednesday, July 6 at 6 p.m. The rodeo will be held at the Rodeo Arena Thursday and Friday evenings at 8 p.m. A full list of events is printed in the June 29 issue of the Villager Journal. The Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas is currently accepting grant applications from public schools, governmental agencies and nonprofit groups across the Natural State. Grants of up to $150,000 are available to support programs focusing on:

White River Area Agency on Aging, Inc will be providing cooling centers and heat relief during local Heat Advisory warnings! The local Senior Centers and Housing Development Community Rooms, within the White River Area Agency on Aging, Inc service area, will extend hours to assist in heat relief when there is a Heat Advisory issued. Please contact your local Senior Center to verify the days and hours the centers will be available during the Heat Advisory.

The Highland Food Truck will transform into the Highland Ice Cream Turck and will visit a town near you! The menu will consist of seven frozen sweet treats for all Highland students to choose from. Come see us for a free ice cream or popsicle and cool off in this hot weather.
