Arkansas squirrel season open

With turkey hunting season wrapped up, many hunters will be putting away their shotguns until fall, but there’s another spring season that gives Arkansas hunters plenty of reasons to keep the scattergun cleaned and ready. Arkansas’s squirrel season opened May 15, and for those who enjoy chasing these treetop targets, it’s a great excuse to be in the woods.

Find every AGFC fish attractor with your phone or fishfinder Last month Jon Stein, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission fisheries biologist in northwest Arkansas, had the opportunity to present to AGFC commissioners and the public the highlights from the latest large-scale habitat project at Beaver Lake. Biologists created 145 new fish attractor locations during the project, but it’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to habitat and fishattracting cover the AGFC has placed in the last five years.

Salem High School students win Bassmaster High School Central Open

Eighth grade students from Salem High School, Huntlee York and Colton Smith, recently won the Bassmaster High School Central Open held on April 24 on Lake Norfork. They caught a five bass limit that weighed 13 lbs 7 oz. They punched their ticket to the Bassmaster High School National tournament on Aug. 11-13 on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina. Walleye production high on Bull Shoals, Norfork lakes

Managing Editor, Arkansas Wildlife Magazine High-water events in recent years are paying off in a big walleye bite on Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes in north Arkansas, not only this spring but for the last several years, according to anglers from local fishing clubs, resort owners and guides on the lakes. Members of the Twin Lakes Walleye Club, which provides regular dissolved oxygen and water temperature research that is being used by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission on Bull Shoals, are having an excellent walleye season, which hits its peak from April until early to midfall, according to club president Don Thomas.
