Thousands of channel catfish from Arkansas Game and Fish Commission hatcheries are being stocked at several locations around the state, and a select few carry a “bonus prize” if you catch them. Each of Arkansas’s Family and Community Fishing Program stocking locations have catfish wearing a brightly colored tag just behind their dorsal fin.

Highland High School Sports Awards, sponsored by Rebel Booster Club, was held on May 3. The awards were presented by school coaches, Athletic Director Dennis Sublett and Emcee Johnny Carter.

The coaching staff of the Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) Grizzly Softball team will host a skills camp May 18-20 at the Richards Sports Complex, 3411 Division Dr., in West Plains. The camp will be held from 3 to 6 p.m.

Area youngsters entering grades two through eight are invited to participate in the Grizzly Basketball Camp June 20-22 at the West Plains Civic Center. The camp is being hosted by Missouri State University-West Plains (MSUWP) Grizzly Basketball Head Coach Jared Phay, Assistant Coach Jason Owens and members of the Grizzly Basketball team.

A special landowner program offered through the Natural Resources Conservation Service may create even more wetland habitat in Arkansas this winter. It also has the potential to increase public hunting opportunities for ducks and geese and wildlife-viewing locations for a variety of migratory species.
