Kathy Buelow

Kathy Buelow passed away peacefully on May 6, 2022.

She was born in Rice Lake, Wis. and stayed until she turned 18 and finished high school. She took a bus to Minneapolis with $50 in her pocket and wanted to see what life was about.

Kathy met Vern Emery or “Em” as he was sometimes called and they married when she was 19 years old and he was 23. She had Donavan and Deborah at a young age. It was 11 ½ years later when Kathy and Vern got a surprise. Another bundle of joy they named Christopher. Craig came along just a year later. It was a family of six with two sets of kids.

We were an active family with sports, band, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts along with church taking our time. Mom was a den mother and Girl Scout Leader. Dad was a Boy Scout Leader and active in the church especially with the youth and so was mom.

Kathy’s joy of music really came out from an early age. She was the oldest of three children. All three kids took piano lessons and their father played several instruments. Her parents loved to dance.

Later in life after Vern died, she married DeWaine Buelow. They had a wonderful life where they eventually moved to Cherokee Village, Ark. DeWaine and Kathy found a good church, good friends and music once again.

She always said she had two loves of her life, Vern in the early years and DeWaine in the later years. She dearly loved them both.

DeWaine died in 2018. Kathy stayed as active as she could with her friends, church and music. She will be missed as a kind and sweet friend and good listener to many, a good card player and a strong woman of faith.

Kathy is survived by her sister Betty who is married to Bob Klungness with two children, her sister-in-law Jane Hanson who was married to her brother Hjalmer (Marty) who died in 2021 with one child and her sister-in-law Marilyn Emery who was married to Vern’s brother Edward with four children.

Donavan Emery, her oldest son who died in 2022 and married to Rae and their three children and four grandchildren. Her daughter Deborah Emery and her horse Montana, her son Christopher Emery married to Diana with five children, four dogs and two cats. Craig Emery, her youngest who died in 1982 and was just 13 years old.

As lives go she had love, some heartache and somehow kept going through it all. She was the strongest women I know.

Service will be held at Spring River Presbyterian Church in Hardy, Ark. on June 25, 2022 at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served after the service. If you would like to make a donation, she loved Spring River Presbyterian Church and all its people. You can also plant a tree through Wortham Funeral Home & Cremations.
